From 1st April 2014 there are two sections of the pension scheme - the main section and the 50/50 section.
The 50/50 section allows you to pay half the contributions and build up pension at half the normal rate. You must elect to do this by completing a form which you can get from your employer.
The LGPS website includes a contribution calculator which will show you by how much your contributions will change if you want to move sections and a pension calculator which will show you the impact on your pension benefits.
If you do move into the 50/50 section of the scheme your life cover and ill health cover will not be affected and will remain at the level they are in the main section.
The 50/50 section is designed to be a short-term option so you will be re-enrolled back into the main section of the scheme every three years. Your employer will let you know when this is going to happen - you can however decide to move sections again by letting your employer know.
More information about the Scheme can be found in the Members Guide available from any of the participating employers or from the Pensions Section.
